How Do You Celebrate Easter With Your Family?

Easter is everywhere this time of year.
The shelves are packed with chocolate bunnies, pastel baskets, and plastic eggs. The neighborhood is buzzing with egg hunts and family photos. Families dress up in their Sunday best, smiling wide for the camera.
It’s colorful. It’s fun. It’s familiar.
But when the sugar rush fades and the toys are forgotten—what does Easter mean to your child?
If we’re honest, many of us grew up knowing Easter mostly for the candy, the clothes, and maybe a quick church visit. But Easter is more than a date on the calendar. It’s more than an event—it’s the foundation of our faith.

The Heart Behind Easter
Easter is the celebration of a miracle.
It’s the moment Jesus rose from the grave, proving once and for all that love wins, death is defeated, and hope is alive. That truth is life-changing. It’s the cornerstone of Christianity.
But here’s the thing: the world doesn’t teach that. It teaches shiny eggs. Marshmallow chicks. New clothes.

Those things aren’t bad—but they’re not the whole story.
As parents, we have a responsibility (and a beautiful opportunity) to shift the focus for our children. From the ways of this world to that which shows them Easter is about Jesus.
Start With the Story
Children may be small, but they understand more than we think.
They understand love. They understand sadness. They understand heroes. The Easter story is full of all of these.
So don’t be afraid to tell the full story. Walk them through the week leading up to Easter. Talk about Palm Sunday—how people cheered for Jesus as He rode into Jerusalem. Share what happened at the Last Supper.

Explain why Good Friday was both heartbreaking and necessary. And then, paint the picture of Easter morning: an empty tomb, and a risen King.
You can do it, But most importantly, do it consistently.
Children don’t just need entertainment—they need anchors. Stories that will shape their hearts, and no story is more powerful than the one where death loses and love wins.
Make Easter Personal
At Redeemers, we teach children that Jesus didn’t just die and rise again for “everyone.” He did it for them.
We want every child in our care to know: “Jesus loves me. He died for me. He’s alive today—and I can know Him.”
And you can reinforce that at home.
Ask them what Easter means to them.
Let them tell the story in their own words.
Create little traditions that point to Jesus like reading a children’s Bible together before bed.
The goal isn’t to take away the fun of the season. The goal is to anchor it in faith.
Because one day, the candy and toys will be gone—but what you’ve built in their hearts will last forever.
Let’s Build the Future, Together
So yes—enjoy the egg hunts. Dress them up. Take the photos. Let them eat a few chocolate bunnies, but above all, point them to the reason behind it all.
Because Easter isn’t about baskets, It’s about an empty tomb. It’s about Jesus and the new life He offers your child.
This Easter, give your child more than candy, Give them a foundation, to learn about the One who gave everything for them.

We’re Redeemers Learning Center—and we’re building the leaders of tomorrow. One child. One story. One risen Savior at a time.
